The Staff
Sean Cooney. B. App. Sci (Physiotherapy)
An enthusiastic and passionate therapist who believes that success as a physiotherapist only comes from not just treating injuries but the person who is attached to the injury.
Sean studied both Exercise and Sport Science and Physiotherapy at the University of Sydney. He is also a qualified personal trainer who become the Head Trainer of a boutique personal training and Pilates studio as well as running his own small business before entering the world of Physiotherapy.
Sean draws on his vast experience of exercise rehabilitation as well as refined physiotherapy modalities to deliver a superior style of treatment that not only fixes injuries but will have you feeling even better than when you first sustained the injury!
Sean maintains a positive attitude towards all his patient rehabilitation goals and is a strong advocate for balanced, healthy lifestyles. He is an expert at helping patients understand their body and their injury in order to prevent the problem ever coming back.
Services
A skilled discipline that optimises the interactions between your joints and their surround muscles. Mechanical faults in the body can lead to pain, stiffness and swelling or can stop your body from performing at its best.
Physiotherapy removes acute pain by removing inflammation, and then restoring normal joint range of motion and muscle activity. It then uses exercises to ensure this normal range and activity is maintained.
Where we differ from the majority of other practices is our passion to make your pain obsolete. Stretches and (boring) stabilisation exercises are just a start, the complete fix to your problem is to be strong and balanced in the muscles that support you in your everyday postures.
In our state of the art gym we can re-create any functional activity that is causing you problems and make you strong enough so your body can cope with the required demands.
This is your fix, resistance bands and floor based stabilisation work alone, is not.
Whether your pain is coming from static desk postures, an acute sprain, recent surgery or running that marathon, we have your fix.
Exercise Rehabilitation
The use of strength and/or cardiovascular training to restore normal functioning of your body.
Most clinics will give you postural awareness activities, core stabilisation exercises in lying, resistance band exercises or ad lib strength work to do with household items. These things work well and make you feel better but don’t thoroughly reduce your risk of having the injury return. Nor do they address that you need your body to play tennis, go for a run, play golf or even walk up the stairs with the shopping!
At healthfix Physiotherapy we have a complete, state of the art gym adequate to provide a true overload stimulus to make your body feel strong.
We identify the activity that is causing all your problems and break it down into its fine components. This could be your desk posture, your lifting technique, the way you mother your child, the way you exercise at the gym, or the way you’re running. We create tailored exercises to first be strong in each component of the activity and then re create the whole functional task and ensure you are strong enough the cope with required demands of the task you need to perform.
Dry Needling
A great alternate way of reducing neural and muscle tension as well as swelling. We use dry needling in conjunction with physiotherapy techniques and massage therapy as it allows our therapists to deliver more effective and time efficient results.
When an injured area is acutely flared up or particularly sore the last thing you want is someone aggressively handling the area. Dry needling is a more subtle way to address the muscle spasm, senstivity or swelling that is causing you all that pain.
Differing to acupuncture which people tend to be more familiar with, dry needling is adminstered after assessment and feel of the tissue as opposed to working off set meridian points.
If persistent neck or back tension is an issue for you, then you will love dry needling.
Corporate Health & Wellness
Is your business progressive enough to consider the health culture within the business and understand its importance on the productivity of your employees? A healthy body not in pain is usually attached to a happy person and that person will want to achieve at work.
At healthfix Physiotherapy our style of Physiotherapy and Exercise Rehabilitation addresses weaknesses in our patient’s work postures and gives them the tools and responsibility of fixing them for good. No one wants dead end treatments where physio gives you temporary relief that is later reaggravated at work.
The benefit of having your employee’s attending our clinic is that we can monitor what department our patients are coming from and with what they are presenting with. If a department is continuing to present with neck or lower back pain, we may be able to suggest workstation assessments, functional task analysis or health promotion activities that will prevent injuries occurring.
If injuries are continuing to rise in your company as well as your insurance premiums then you need to address your health culture and operational tasks within the business. We can offer case reviews, clinical and task education as well as rehabilitative treatment.
Massage Therapy
An art of manipulating soft tissue, used to relieve muscle tension and pain, aid the healing process and promote relaxation and well-being.
Being the experts in soft tissue management and working alongside Physiotherapists means we differ to other services out there. We are able to treat specific dysfunctions, efficiently and effectively, preventing symptom reoccurrence in the future.
Whether it’s postural related tension, over training tightness or an acute injury, massage can help release tight muscles, correct joint mechanics and promote healing of the tissue. Not only does this ease your discomfort, it has also been proven to improve recovery time and decrease chances of re-injury.
Are you a desk worker with constant neck or back pain? Or an athlete struggling due to aches and pain? A massage could be perfect for you.
