Drum Making Workshops
These drum making workshops provide you with the materials and an interactive environment in which you can create your own unique and authentic Healing Drum. The workshop is designed to give you the experience as well as the chance to apply your own energy to your personal creation. It is a wonderful opportunity to create medicine/healing items that carry your energy, your intent.
In the process of birthing your Healing drums, everything is made with due ceremony. They are unique to you, handcrafted in the style of the Native American Drums and created with the right intent, an extension of your heart and soul.
You will Meditate/Journey to connect with your Guides, learn styles of drumming and watch a demonstration of healing with the drum. Together we will also experience the soulful sound of Running Bear.
What Matthew creates during these workshops, is in honour of the ancestors and the traditions of The Lakota and the Plains People of the Native American culture. Matthew is committed to providing you with the best authentic medicine tools and his love for the knowledge of the ancestors, their customs and culture, moves him to share these gifts with you.
- You will make a 16 inch hand held Native American style drum and beater.
- All participants are asked to bring a healthy lunch to share, 2 old towels and a jacket as the workshop is often held outdoors.
Please contact us for upcoming workshop dates and locations.
Smudging Fan Workshop
Smudging is a practice used by many different cultures to cleanse or clear a person, a space, or an object. A smudging ceremony can both clear negative energies and also create positive energy.
Smudging Fans are used along with the smoke of purifying plants such as Sage, Xantheria resin, and other sacred herbs. It is the spirit of the plant which purifies whatever is being smudged, alongside our prayers and Spirit. The smoke of these plants also assists in carrying our prayers to Great Spirit.
During these workshops you will make your own unique Smudging Fan.
Each person is asked to collect and bring their own large feathers. Other craftwork equipment is supplied eg leather, beads, glue etc. Each individual is encouraged to create a design that appeals and has meaning for them.
Once we have made the Smudging Fans, we then learn a Smudging Ritual for daily use.
We will be observing Prayer and Ceremony throughout the making of the Smudging Fan.
Workshops are ongoing throughout the year in South Australia.
Please contact us for upcoming workshop dates and locations.

THE SWEAT LODGE
The Inipi (Lakota sweat lodge) is a ceremony involved in cleansing the body, mind, emotions and the spirit.
The process of the ceremony begins with a fast of 24 hours, then a coming together of the participants in the starting of the fire where the Grandfathers (the rocks) are heated. Prayer ties are then made bringing together the thoughts, goals, intentions and prayers for each individual’s needs for the ceremony they are about to experience. Participants enter the sweat lodge and sit in a circle in the dark where hot rocks are brought into the centre. The sweat lodge ceremony is made up of 4 rounds each round bringing in more hot rocks, building up the heat. The leader of the ceremony will take the participants through a journey connecting them with the elements, with the Elders and with the Spirits who are working with each individual ceremony. Water is poured on the rocks creating steam and heat. This intensity is the catalyst to the cleansing process. Between each round there is a breath of fresh air when the flap is opened to allow more rocks in. There is no pressure to complete the whole ceremony if any individual is unable to.
The sweat lodge ceremony is a unique way of getting closer to Mother Earth and to Spirit and also in connecting deeper with your own spirit.
It should be remembered that to the Lakota People, this ceremony is a way of life and at times would be experienced at least twice a week.
It will be different for each individual who participates just as the goal or the intention for each Inipi ceremony can differ.
As the guide of this ceremony, I do not profess to be Native American, though I do bring to the ceremony the teachings and wisdom that have been shown to me through the elders I have worked with on Rosebud Indian Reservation, South Dakota, while spending time there over the last 11 years.
I will be holding the following community sweats for those who are interested in experiencing this Native American tradition, in learning some of the teachings passed down from Lakota elders, in growing in self connection, connecting with spirit in turbulent times, working through any physical, mental, emotional or spiritual blocks, to pray for someone or a cause in need or for healing.
