Emma Simpson, Board Certified Structural Integrator uses a variety of structural integration, bodywork, and myofascial techniques, as well as yoga therapy in her Lilyfield and Balmain clinics to get your body moving as it was perfectly designed to do — unencumbered by pain and tight, compressed muscles, joints and connective tissue.

Functional fascia is the body’s infrastructure for creating fluid movement, and movement is medicine – both for the body and the mind.

Emma uses Structural Integration (SI) and myofascial techniques, scar therapies and therapeutic yoga and movement techniques to help you return your body to its optimal movement patterns and to freedom and ease.

Structural Integration

What is Structural Integration

Structural Integration (SI) is based on the work of Ida P. Rolf, a biochemist and bodyworker who developed techniques for working with the fascia, or connective tissues, of the body.

Fascia surrounds individual muscles and muscle groups, blood vessels, organs and nerves, serving to bind some structures together and allow others to glide smoothly over and around one another.

Healthy fascia is elastic and fluid, moving freely with muscles and bones. But injury, stress, strain from repetitive movements and the effects of ageing can cause the fascia to shorten, tighten and become dense.

Compromised fascia can pull muscles and skeletal structures out of alignment, causing pain, discomfort and debilitation.

SI aims to lengthen, soften and ease these thickened tissues to restore postural equilibrium, ease of movement and the feeling of being ‘at home’ in your body.

Scar Tissue Therapy

Working with scars is like speaking a different language in the world of connective tissue. Scar tissue is very dense fascia with unique properties. Scar tissue work uses a casual, light touch – a little reminiscent of working with bread dough.

Scar work is rarely painful, even for very new scars, and there is an immense amount of improvement after just one procedure.

Natural and surgical scars of any age heal rapidly and continue to improve over a short time.

After treatment, scars are softer, your mobility improved and less pain. There is lasting improvement after even just one session, but a series of treatments work best.

ScarWork treats the following conditions:

  • Breast augmentation and reduction scars
  • C-section scars
  • Facial scars
  • Hysterectomy scars
  • Joint replacement scars
  • Keyhole surgery scars
  • Mastectomy and breast reconstruction scars
  • Open heart surgery scars
  • Scars from accidents
  • Spinal surgery scars
  • And many more…

Testimonials from Emma’s Previous Clients

“Just finished my second session of KMI Structural Bodywork with Emma. What a relief! How to describe it? My soul is more comfortable in my skin! Thank you so much!!” - Florence Biancardi

I have been seeing Emma for the past two years. I came to her with a long-standing and debilitating lower back complaint and generalized muscle aches and pains. After a number of remedial bodywork treatments, I opted for the 12-series Structural Integration program. This changed my life!

Though I still get the odd twinge, and old injuries flare up from time to time, I am generally pain-free and I’m able to move freely and energetically. Emma’s treatments and her patient explanations together with my yoga practise have given me a much more acute body awareness and I am able to address twinges on my own before they become problems.

Emma is a talented, knowledgeable, empathetic, and caring bodyworker. I see her still for ‘tune-ups’. She continues to carefully assess me before each session – no one size fits all here! I cannot recommend Emma highly enough.
