Welcome to East Meets West Chinese Medicine
Welcome to the East Meets West Chinese Medicine website. The East Meets West Chinese Medicine Clinic is run by husband and wife team, Ian and Michelle Russell. Prior to training in Chinese Medicine, both Ian and Michelle enjoyed long-term careers as Registered Nurses, working in a variety of clinical settings throughout the world. Their Western medical training has provided a professional, caring and knowledgeable base, from which they have expanded into the holistic health care system of Traditional Chinese Herbal Medicine.
On completing a 3 year Advanced Diploma in Traditional Chinese Medicine course in Western Australia, both Ian and Michelle trained under and worked with an extremely experienced Chinese medicine practitioner, who herself trained in and worked as a Chinese Medicine practitioner in a Beijing Hospital. This training has provided Ian and Michelle with valuable experience in how Chinese Medicine can be best adapted and utilised for people in Western Australia, living a stressful Western lifestyle.
Ian and Michelle operate from a thriving health care clinic designed to provide a safe, peaceful and professional area for consultation and treatment. The main aim of the clinic is to encourage and empower the client to understand and take care of their body and health utilising Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Michelle Russell specialises in all aspects of women's health care, including problematic periods, infertility and digestive problems. Michelle also has a special interest in treating children's health problems from a Chinese Medicine perspective, as most of her nursing career was spent caring for children and adolescents at Princess Margaret Hospital for Children. For further information please see our treatment page.
Ian Russell works as a general practitioner of Chinese Medicine, working with a wide and varied range of male and female clients. Ian also has a special interest in men's health, having worked extensively with male health care issues. These include sports and traumatic injuries, emotional problems, and male reproductive problems. Ian has also supported several clients through cancer treatment and has volunteered his time to the Brownes Cancer Support Unit at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital in Perth.
About Ian and Michelle
Ian originates from the West Coast of Scotland, moving to London in 1991 to train as a Registered Nurse. Ian lived and worked in London for 6 years before embarking on a year long trip to Australia. Ian travelled around Australia working as a nurse in remote areas as well as the cities until deciding to settle in Perth. Shortly after arriving in Perth, Ian became ill with Chronic Fatigue due to a viral throat infection. Ian sought out Chinese Medicine after many ineffectual attempts by Western Medicine to improve his health. During his recovery, Ian came to understand the effectiveness of the Chinese system of health care. Feeling frustrated by Ian's perceived limitations of Western Medicine to truly help the patients he looked after in hospital, he decided to train in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Ian trained for three years at the Perth Academy of Natural Therapies, graduating with an Advanced Diploma of Traditional Chinese Medicine. On conclusion of the course, Ian was offered the opportunity to work with and learn from a well respected, experienced practitioner of Chinese Medicine. Ian worked with his mentor for 3 years before making the decision to start his own business with his wife Michelle. Ian has completed the necessary exams to register with AACMA, the Australian Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine Association. Ian is a skilled practitioner in treating a variety of men and women's health problems. He has a special interest in men's health and is committed to helping men address their health problems, using his unique combination of Western and Chinese Medicine knowledge.
Michelle originates from Perth, Western Australia. After meeting her husband, Ian, she decided to study Traditional Chinese Medicine to further her ability to help others in a more holistic manner. Michelle trained for three years at the Perth Academy of Natural Therapies, graduating with an Advanced Diploma of Traditional Chinese Medicine. On conclusion of the course, Michelle was offered the opportunity to work with and learn from a well respected, experienced practitioner of Chinese Medicine.
