Christina Sharman
Christina Sharman has been studying yoga since 1976 and after using a book, began classes with the Satyanandas in Adelaide. Final relaxation was a challenge as Christina was not sure what she should 'be doing', and it took some time for her to surrender and begin to relax. Visiting Mangrove Mountain Retreat north of Sydney, was a turning point as she discovered that there was a whole lot more to the vast subject of Yoga.
Soon travelling to London, she took classes with the Sivananda Vedanta Center and increased her knowledge with retreats and workshops, finally completing both her teacher training and advanced teacher training in their ashram in the Bahamas in 1986, accruing 500 hours over 10 weeks. Living in the Sivananda house in Notting Hill Gate, London for 2 more years, cemented her yoga practice with asanas, meditation and kirtan every day.
However her quest for precision was not satisfied and she soon became attracted to Iyengar Yoga which was flourishing in London at that time.Studying with the Mehta family at their Iyengar Center, changed her view about the practice of yoga and she continued to study with Mr Iyengar in Pune, and his teachers in Adelaide and Sydney.
Christina has attended workshops and classes with many renowned teachers such as Swami Vishnudevananda, Mr Iyengar, Sandor Remete, Simon Borg-Oliver and Bianca Machlis.
She continues to study & is presently studying The Anatomy & Physiology of Yoga with Yoga Synergy, & has completed a Yoga Therapy Course with them this year too.
Christina is also an Emergency and Mental Health Nurse, bringing a deep knowledge of the body's workings & problems to her teaching, ensuring a safe and effective practice for all her students.
Asanas are only a small part of YOGA and Christina teaches quietness and guides a deep relaxation, allowing the student to begin the internal journey.
Christina's style is strong but sensitive, guiding each student to do their best without pressure or strain, and ensuring each student is working at their peak level, where ever that may be.
