Dr Vodder Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) is a specialised treatment which gently stretches the skin over the deeper muscular tissue using four main strokes in slow rhythmical sequences, without the use of oil. These gentle techniques encourage natural drainage of the lymphatic system with the aim to assist with immune function, healing, lymphoedema management, calming the nervous system, and many other conditions and situations.

Dr Vodder's MLD techniques simulate and stimulate the rhythmic contraction of the lymph vessels which in turn increases the volume and flow of lymph fluid.
This helps maintain fluid balance in the body by collecting excess fluid from the tissue and depositing back into the blood stream.
The increase in lymph flow also stimulates production of lymphocytes, (a type of white blood cell which helps fight disease and infection). These are concentrated at the at the lymph nodes and serve to remove unwanted and harmful substances that have been collected with the fluid.
The neutralised lymph fluid continues its journey through larger lymph vessels called trunks, re-entering the main circulatory system at a junction with subclavian vein, near the collar bone, just prior to entering the heart.

Treatment Procedure
The Vodder method of MLD is a versatile system where the four main strokes are applied in either:
a) a basic sequence,
b) modified and more targeted sequences, or
c) combined with additional specialised techniques for treating swelling caused by Lymphoedema
In general, treatment often begins and ends with a deep diaphragmatic breathing routine, another great way to get the lymph flowing back into the venous system and through the deeper lymphatic pathways.
The type of treatment used is based on a thorough assessment of the symptoms presented and so is always tailored to your individual needs.
As with myotherapy and remedial massage any contraindications specific to MLD need to be considered before beginning any treatment protocol.
