About Yoga Therapy
It is either gentle and recuperative or solid and powerful as an integrative health system. It is a holistic approach suitable for anyone, whether they are professional or amateur athletes, expectant mothers, office workers, wheelchair-bound or bedridden.
Unlike yoga classes, in which you practice in a group setting, yoga therapy is practised one-on-one with your therapist. It can be used to treat a variety of conditions, including:
- Asthma and respiratory conditions
- Autoimmune and neurological disorders
- Before and after medical procedures following a consultation with your doctor
- Heart conditions and other chronic illnesses
- Insomnia
- Pain management - back pain, arthritis
- Stress, anxiety and depression
- Women’s health issues
A simple meditative Yoga Therapy practice can also be a great support to cancer patients during and after treatment.
How does Yoga Therapy work?
In your first consultation, you will fill out a detailed questionnaire covering your GP, specialist, and/or complementary therapies, medical history, sleep patterns, digestion issues, etc.
Deb will explore your diet, lifestyle habits, and current circumstances with you. Likewise, you can let her know your primary and secondary goals, how much time and space you have for practice, and what you expect from it. Following that, she will observe some safe movements, your natural breath, and take your pulse on both hands.
She will teach you a simple yoga and/or meditation practice for you to practice at home. Deb recommends observing yourself during and after your practice and then returning for a second review in about seven to ten days to decide if more sessions are necessary.
You can rely on Deb to listen, observe, guide, and care for you throughout your practice while building a trusting relationship. Afterwards, your job as the care-seeker is to do the work and follow your breathing, meditation, walking, chanting and other practices.
Benefits of Yoga Therapy
As your needs change, the benefits of Yoga Therapy will change as well. A personalised Yoga Therapy practice will utilise yoga postures, breathing, meditation, relaxation, simple dietary and lifestyle recommendations, sound, and mantra to provide:
- Enhanced health and wellbeing
- Improved concentration, focus, and clarity
- Long-term improvement in posture, balance, strength, and flexibility
- Increased sense of harmony and inner connection
- Less negativity and more positive habits
- Feelings of peace, acceptance, and joy.
You can improve the quality of life and the quality of your relationships by taking an active role in your future well-being. An individual practice can be a great source of inner strength and a powerful means of personal growth and self-care.
The path to wellbeing does not come from a quick fix, you must be open and committed to your pursuit.
