Mindfulness is a holistic attitude: it relates to you as a person, your life story and your unfinished business – your ‘incomplete gestalts’
Gestalt Psychotherapy is an important branch of humanistic psychology derived from hermeneutics and phenomenology. It deals primarily with problems of perception and endeavours to make people more conscious of them and in turn refines and heightens their skills of perception.

Why Is Making a Connection So Important?
The connection between ‘Myself’ and ‘Yourself’ is of crucial importance. In my counselling practice we relate as two people of equal standing and as your counsellor, I also give of myself because my life, like yours has been shaped by many easy and not-so-easy steps.
In other words I do not offer a cold, blank-canvas approach. Rather, I share with you images that occur to me or experiences from my own life which seem to fit the situation. The aim of our sessions therefore is to bring closure to your incomplete gestalt, enriching your own self awareness.
What Does Gestalt Therapy Do?
Gestalt Therapy aims to help clients overcome a range of issues, with the most common including:
- Learning how to self-support internally
- Increasing self awareness
- Becoming aware of how they impact others
- Learning how to control non-verbal traits
- Becoming aware of their senses
- Building a value system that benefits both them and others around them
- Assuming ownership and therefore responsibility of their thoughts, emotions or actions
What To Except In Your Initial Consultation
Before you embark on counselling with me, we meet for an initial conversation so that we can get to know one another. To ensure that we have the right basis of trust for productive counselling, it is important – absolutely essential in fact – that you feel comfortable with me. And I also need to feel a personal connection with you (‘I’ and ‘thou/you’).
What Happens Next?
If, at this initial consultation we decide to work together, we will arrange 5 appointments. After these sessions we will review how things have gone so far, where we are now and how you wish to proceed.
In this review phase, we will map out the course that you expect our counselling sessions to take and lay foundations for bridges to help you through the turbulent areas.
I approach this conversation according to Gestalt Therapy principles which you can learn more about at the Gestalt page. I see the person as an integrated whole and therefore I incorporate that whole – body, mind and spirit – into our sessions.
