Acupuncture

Acupuncture can treat a wide range of physical and emotional conditions. It is based on the meridian system, a network of energy channels under the skin. Energy known as Qi flows along these channels and allows the body to move and function properly. In illness, the flow of energy along these channels can become obstructed and blocked. The individual feels unwell, and, over time, symptoms and illness can develop.

Acupuncture releases these blockages by the insertion of very fine needles into the skin. Once the blockages are released the body’s own immune response is able to restore health. A sense of wellbeing and happiness will be felt by the restored flow of energy along the channels.

The treatment is unique to each individual and is not a predefined combination of points. A skilled practitioner will locate these blockages by feeling of the pulses and observing the signs of the body. Usually a series of treatments is required to change energetic patterns in the body. These treatments are often spaced one week apart in the beginning, and less frequently once the condition improves.

Acupuncture treats many health issues and was traditionally used as a preventative treatment. In this tradition, people would consult their acupuncture practitioner regularly to maintain wellbeing and health. A treatment once every few months may be enough to improve health and life for many people.

Acupuncture is now a common medical treatment used in both conventional and complementary therapy. There are very few side effects from acupuncture. At the Chinese Medicine Centre only single-use, new, sterile needles are used and these are disposed of after each treatment.

Acupuncture is a treatment of choice for many wanting to conceive. It is known to enhance the chances of becoming pregnant naturally, or in conjunctions with different forms of assisted reproductive technology (ART), including IUI and IVF.
