Acupuncture is the insertion of fine needles at specific points on the body’s channels to circulate Qi (pronounced ‘Chi’) ’Energy’ flow. This in turn nourishes the body tissues and enhances organ function. Moxibustion therapy involves warming these same points with a heated herbal preparation.
The needles used a China Dragon are the single-use disposable type and made to the highest Australian Standards. Whilst acupuncture is not entirely painless it is nothing like injections or other needling therapies.
Consultation Information
Initial appointments last 1 – 1.5 hrs, subsequent appointments 45min – 1 hr.
A comprehensive history is taken, and diagnosis determined through questioning, assessment of the points and channels, as well as observation of the tongue and taking the pulse.
Treatment commonly takes the form of acupuncture / massage for external problems (injuries and pain) or acupuncture / herbal medicine for internal conditions (illnesses and general health). At the end of the consultation exercises or dietary recommendations may also be given.
