What is Naturopathy?
Naturopathy is an umbrella term that incorporates a number of modalities. Two of these include Herbal Medicine & Naturopathic Nutrition. Naturopaths believe education is the key to improving wellbeing. A naturopathic conultation will not only guide you to better health, but will also give you the tools to optimise your vitality and help make important choices regarding your health easier.
What is Herbal Medicine?
Herbal medicine has been used for thousands of years in many different cultures. Medical herbalists use both empirical evidence and scientific research when assessing which herbal medicine would be best for each patient. They are skilled in treating many specific conditions using herbs in liquid or tablet form. Herbal medicine is used when quick results are required and often do not require permanent administration.
What is Naturopathic Nutrition?
Good nutrition is fundamental for good health! Naturopathic nutritionists treat conditions with food or supplements. Supplementation is prescribed when fast results are necessary, for example specific vitamin and mineral deficiencies, or when metabolic pathways require assistance. Food therapy is used to ensure long term benefits; the diet is assessed and changes for improvement will be suggested .
There are many reasons why you may choose to seek the help of a Naturopath. Just a few examples of the health concerns Naturopathy can help you with include:
~ Allergies
~ Blood sugar disorders - insulin resistance; low/high blood sugar
~ Cardiovascular conditions - high blood pressure; high cholesterol; varicose veins
~ Children's health concerns - poor immune function; lack of concentration; chronic/acute ear infections; irritability
~ Fatigue - chronic fatigue syndrome; low energy levels
~ Fertility care - infertility (female & male); preconception, pregnancy care and after birth care

~ General ill health
~ Hormonal imbalances - menopause; premenstrual symptoms; excessive bleeding; menstrual irregularities; endometriosis; PCOS
~ Immune disorders - autoimmune conditions; chronic viral infections; candida

~ Male health - prostatic hyperplasia; general health

~ Neurological symptoms - stress; anxiety; nervousness; depression

~ Skin conditions - eczema; psoriasis; acne; dermatitis
~ Weight reduction
~ Women's health - general heath
What to expect from a Naturopathic consultation:
The initial consultation involves recording a detailed history of the health concerns for which you are seeking treatment. This is followed by the exploration of each body system searching for tiny clues revealing your current state of health.
Once a thorough history has been documented the following tests will be carried out to complete the Naturopathic assessment:
~ Blood pressure reading
~ Iridology
~ Nail analysis
~ Tongue analysis
~ Zinc tally test
~ Ear, throat & chest assessment (if necessary)
~ Referral for further testing - E.g. blood tests (if necessary)
The treatment plan will be wholistic and indiviualised; it will include dietary & lifestyle advice and may also include a herbal medicine formula and nutritional supplements.
A follow-up consultation is usually two weeks after the initial; during this consult we assess your progress and address any questions or concerns you may have. Depending on your health condition; you may require more than one follow-up.
