Dr Lesley D’Costa

Osteopath B.App.Sc(Osteo),M.Osteo

Dr Lesley D’Costa is the principal Osteopath at Blue Mountains Osteo.

Lesley always knew she wanted to be in a profession where she could help people reduce pain and suffering. While doing observations at numerous pain clinics during her first degree in exercise science, Lesley was very impressed by the life changing results patients were getting with their Osteopath. Lesley fell in love with the profession immediately. She began her 5 year university training and thrived, earning distinction honours and a Deans medal in 2005, all the while gaining clinical experience working as an assistant in two Western Sydney practices.

Upon graduating a Masters of Osteopathy in 2007, Lesley began practising in Faulconbridge. Lesley’s love for the Blue Mountains and its people made her, together with husband Alan, want a more long term commitment to the lower mountains community. Their dreams became reality when they opened their very own warm and inviting, professional clinic in Blaxland in 2017.

Lesley enjoys treating a wide range of musculoskeletal complaints. Her strong interest in functional anatomy and biomechanics and her understanding of pain allows Lesley to effectively diagnose and treat the underlying problem. She enjoys working one on one with her patients, providing them with the best management plan and loves empowering her patients to achieve their best possible outcomes.

Lesley strongly believes in up to date knowledge and has thus done further studies in tendon rehabilitation, pelvic pain and BBPV (a common form of vertigo) to name a few, and has widened her skill base by learning dry needling which she finds very effective alongside her osteopathic treatment regime.

When not working, Lesley loves spending time with her family and friends. She loves food, travel, dogs, and pottering in the garden.

Dr Alan Sardelich

Osteopath B.Exsc, B.App.Sc(Osteo),M.Osteo

Alan’s long journey into healthcare began in 1999 when he started his first degree in Exercise Science. Here he was exposed to many facets of the healthcare system, and it was during this time that he knew that pain and injury management was the profession he desired to be in. After countless hours of work experience and observation in pain management clinics, coupled with a growing love of anatomy and biomechanics, Alan decided he was going to become an Osteopath. In 2003 Alan began his 5 year degree in Osteopathy. This time Alan found his passion, completing both the bachelor and Masters degrees with distinction honours, recipient of two Dean’s medals, and was awarded the highest GPA across all the health science degrees at Western Sydney University.

Prior to completing his Masters in 2007 he was lecturing and tutoring clinical anatomy across the numerous health degrees at Western Sydney University. Since then he has worked across multiple clinics in Sydney, most recently sharing his time between his own practices in Blaxland and Chatswood. Over a 10 year clinical career Alan has completed additional training in joint manipulation, tendon rehabilitation, pelvic and pregnancy related pain to name a few. Continued professional development is a cornerstone of healthcare, Alan vows to never stop learning and is driven by a desire to keep improving as a clinician. Alan works with an extremely diverse range of patient types, and although his early Osteopathy career was predominantly concentrated with elite athletes, dancers and performers, he now spends his clinical time assisting patients of all ages and types.

Alan has a strong clinical focus towards evidence based practice, meaning all his patients get a specific diagnosis, treatment and management plan that aligns best with what all the science based literature teaches us. Alan believes in educating and empowering his patients on how best to understand their problem so that they can control their outcome more effectively. Alan uses a wide range of manual therapy techniques, prescribes strength and stretching exercises, gives behaviour advice, and educates his patients so that they have a good understanding of what the problem may be, why they have it and how it will resolve.

Alan has fallen in love with the Blue Mountains community. When he is not in clinic you might catch him playing soccer for the mighty Blue Mountains FC, at the gym, or out and about enjoying all the wonderful wildlife that the Blue Mountains has to offer.

Dr Shane Fewster

Osteopath B.App.Sc(Osteo),M.Osteo

Prior to becoming an osteopath Shane had his own commercial Landscape Company, so he is familiar with musculoskeletal aches and pains from both the perspective of a physical labourer, and as a desk bound professional.

Osteopathic treatment provided a holistic approach to keep Shane and his team “match fit”, and because of the success he observed from the Osteopathic treatment outcomes compared to other more conventional approaches he decided that in the second half of his life he would pursue his passion for health and wellbeing. Five years later Shane graduated in the Masters of Osteopathy course held in University of Western Sydney. “I was attracted to this form of medicine as it encompassed body mind and spirit within its treatment philosophy”.

In the initial years of practice Shane managed a large number of chronic pain patients which can be quite challenging due to the multiple factors involved. Inspired by his desire to help these kind of patients Shane took his education to another level by completing a further two year Master degree in the Science of medicine (Pain Management) at Sydney University.“I try to utilise this pain knowledge to prevent acute pain becoming chronic and to maximise chronic pain patients’ ability to best manage their unique situation”.

In addition to this wealth of knowledge in the field of pain mechanisms and neurophysiology, Shane decided to increase his manual skill base and take part in further studies in musculoskeletal acupuncture which he found affective in providing pain relief. Shane also uses classical osteopathic techniques such as gentle manipulation, mobilisation, specific massage and functional techniques. Shane enjoys caring for people from all walks of life and age groups, from children to grandparents, labourers to office workers. With a passion for wellbeing, pain management and strength training, Shane is able to provide pain relief and advice to individuals seeking a happy and healthy lifestyle.

Adin Clifford

B.Clin.Sc (OstSt) M.Osteo

Adin is a local, born and bred resident of the Blue Mountains. Upon graduation of the HSC, Adin decided he wanted to work with his hands and completed an apprenticeship with Ausgrid as an electrical linesman in Sydney. Throughout the years, the physical nature of the job led to typical musculoskeletal complaints that many workers are faced with. While trying various different health disciplines to help with aches and pains, he sought out treatment at Blue Mountains Osteopathy and had great results.

Adin’s positive experiences gained from Osteopathy along with his keen interest in health and fitness inspired him to change careers and study to become an Osteopath. He relocated to the Gold Coast and gained a Bachelor of Clinical Sciences (Osteopathic Studies) and a Masters of Osteopathic Medicine from Southern Cross University before returning back home to Sydney and the Blue Mountains to treat as an Osteopath.

Adin strongly believes in finding the underlying cause to prevent symptoms reoccurring and uses various treatment methods such as manipulations, soft tissue massage, articulation, stretching and taping. While hands on techniques are important, Adin also believes that patient education, exercise prescription and lifestyle advice are equally as important throughout treatment. By using a wide range of interventions, Adin is able to address many different complaints to provide symptomatic relief and allow patients to return to their normal daily activities.

Outside of the clinic, you will find Adin at the gym and enjoying nature throughout the Blue Mountains.
