Try and see what cold laser therapy can do for your health at Better Backs Chiropractic & Natural Products in Mitcham, Victoria.
Cold laser therapy, also known as low-level laser therapy (LLLT), works by directing low levels of visible and near-infrared light to a specific area of the body. On a cellular level, this can result in decreased pain, swelling, inflammation, and an accelerated healing process for wounds, deep soft tissues and nerves. Furthermore, a recent Harvard Medical School study discovered that, in certain doses and when applied to the appropriate area of the body, LLLT can even have an analgesic effect without the use of pain relievers!
What happens during a cold laser therapy session?
You can expect to feel the laser heads against your skin and possibly some warmth during a treatment session, but it is totally painless.
A single treatment will typically take between 10 and 20 minutes, depending on the size of the area to be treated. As with any type of treatment, it may take several sessions to see results. However, for injuries that need to heal quickly or chronic pain for which you have exhausted all other options, this is an excellent evidence-based treatment alternative.
What are the benefits of cold laser therapy?
Every day, we see a wide range of conditions and injuries in our clinic. Among those that our laser therapy can help treat, either alone or in conjunction with other treatments, are:
- Sprains and minor injuries
- Inflammation
- Aches and pains
- Wound management
What is the science behind cold laser therapy?
A recent study demonstrating the combined effectiveness of LLLT and chiropractic care for cervical facet dysfunction has been published—a randomised controlled trial of chiropractic manipulative therapy and low-level laser therapy in the treatment of cervical facet dysfunction (L. Saayman et al.).
It showed that, while both treatments were significantly effective on their own, when used together, the results were greater.
An increasing amount of research into the efficacy and safety of LLLT is being conducted. If you are interested in cold laser therapy, contact us and we will discuss whether LLLT is an appropriate treatment option for you.
Most conditions require 10 to 15 appointments to fully clear up, while others require only two to three appointments. Some complex conditions may require multiple treatment sessions to achieve the best results, but they are always completed in blocks of five or ten.
We offer cold laser therapy throughout the Melbourne area, including Blackburn, Nunawading, Ringwood, Vermont, and other suburbs.
