“Private sessions allow you to focus yoga practice on a specific area of concern, which could change from time to time depending on your current physical and mental state.” — Chopra Center

What is yoga and therapeutic yoga?

A 3,000 year old tradition, yoga, is now regarded in the Western world as a holistic approach to health and is classified by the National Institutes of Health as a form of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM).[1]

Yoga is a form of mind-body fitness that involves a combination of muscular activity and an internally directed mindful focus on awareness of the self, the breath, and energy.[2] Four basic principles underlie the teachings and practices of yoga's healing system.[3]

Today, many people identify yoga only with the physical practice of yoga, but it is just one of the many tools used for healing the individual.

Therapeutic yoga is based on yoga therapy science and works in conjunction with conventional western medicine and other health methodologies.

Client testimonial: “My physiotherapist suggested I go to a qualified yoga teacher for private lessons to help with my tight hip flexors and hamstrings. Intan is helping me a lot in working through my issues and the yoga classes are aligned with the exercises the physiotherapist has given me. Intan also provided me with a customised yoga program so I can continue practice at home.” — Nico, 46

What are the benefits of private, one-to-one sessions?

Yoga is not always a one-size-fits-all practice. A good and intuitive yoga teacher will be able to adapt the practice to suit your needs, which may vary from time to time.

Unlike in generic group yoga classes, a private, one-to-one setting allows you to work towards a specific goal, or goals, whether to reduce pain, improve health or manage other conditions you're currently experiencing.

It's also an opportunity for you to explore the more subtle components of yoga including conscious breathing, meditation and lifestyle changes, among many others.

The therapeutic yoga approach encourages self-empowerment. It designs to equip you as a unique individual so that you're engaged and involved to be the active participant in the management of your overall wellbeing, recovery or rehabilitation. A process that requires the support of a qualified yoga therapist.

“As a trusted and qualified yoga therapist with specialised training and skill development, I will guide and support your positive changes through systemic self-investigation, self-transformation and self-realisation.” — Intan Ridwan | Yoga Therapist

Who should participate?

  • Absolute beginners who have never done yoga before or very limited experience with yoga.
  • Anyone who isn't comfortable with group setting or have tried group classes but realised it's not for them and considering one-to-one approach as a better option.
  • Regular practitioners who wish to focus their yoga practice on a specific area of concern, which could change from time to time depending on their current physical and mental state.

Client testimonial: "With her deep knowledge, Intan helps me achieve my goals. The practice is very neat and systematic. She identifies areas I can improve, gradually and safely, and guides me through to work towards the goals. By the third session, I can tell the difference and feel so much better!” — Meera, 36
