NEUROAQUATICS

Neuroaquatics is an approach that Aqua Moves has developed to help change learned patterns of movement that may be prolonging injury, hampering recovery and causing ongoing dysfunction.

Neuroaquatics addresses movement patterning and improves self-awareness and knowledge, we believe this is the crucial first stage of care.

We offer hands-on work and guide our clients through a range of movements designed to feed specific information back to the nervous system, assisting in the restoration of the body’s image in the brain. This exploratory learning process enables our clients to learn how to move more easily.

With an enhanced awareness of how to move and organise oneself, exercises for mobility, strength and stability become more effective.

NEUROAQUATICS FOR PARENTS AND CARERS

Managing Children with Special Needs

Because water offers a safe “playground” with a freedom of movement not experienced on land, it can offer a sense of possibility to children who experience restricted movement on land.

Water enables exploration of movement and assists bodily connections. We provide skilled observation and handling, guiding your child to make profound discoveries that are not possible when they are forced to move in a particular way. This is a non-threatening learning process, which is a pleasure for both child and carer.

Aqua Moves introduces the water in a gentle and playful way. Because this is a new sensory experience, it's important to make it a positive one. If nervous system changes and learning is to be effective, the child has to be engaged and interested - our goal is to engender confidence and curiosity.

Aqua Moves' Neuroaquatics For Parents and Carers workshop will explain how to use the water effectively and gain the best possible outcomes from the experience. Children are individually assessed and their individual concerns will be given specific attention. Carers will be taught how to manage their children on land and in water in a way that assists their child's learning. Lifelong skills will be learned.

Parents who have attended the workshops have told us that being in the water has offered their child greater understanding of other treatments and given them more confidence when participating in these treatments.

NEUROAQUATICS: FOR THERAPISTS

Aqua Moves runs workshops about our approach for physiotherapists, as well as parents/carers of children with disabilities.

Research into the impact of pain and injury on the body’s deep stabilisers is mounting and there is increasing awareness of the need to address motor planning in rehabilitation.

Aqua Moves' Neuroaquatics approach uses water as a kinaesthetic teaching medium, honing movement by sensitising our clients to their own somatosensory system and we believe, ultimately impacting muscle activation, stability, motor planning and postural control.

We offer two, 2-day workshops on the Neuroaquatics approach to rehabilitation. For more information about these classes, visit our website www.neuroaquatics.com.au
