Founded in 1975, the Australian Naturopathic Practitioners Association puts integrity, leadership, and excellence at the forefront of naturopathic health care.

Naturopaths have a duty to improve and maintain the health of their patients.

Patients who entrust themselves to the care of a naturopath because of illness, those seeking advice for health maintenance, or those seeking to prevent disease are also held to this duty.

In naturopathic practice, the holistic approach aims to treat the core causes of disease by acknowledging and utilising old traditional principles and centuries of empirical knowledge.

This includes an evaluation of the treatments offered, knowledge of research on human disease, and ongoing continuing education.

Naturopathic services are beneficial for acute and chronic conditions of any age. Naturopaths use various modalities in their practice, including:

  • Herbal medicine
  • Nutritional medicine
  • Homeopathy
  • Dietary and lifestyle advice
  • Massage therapy or other therapies

The current practice of Naturopathy incorporates both scientific and traditional evidence.

Importance of Being ANPA Registered

The ANPA has always advocated for the strongest regulation of Naturopaths. Currently, naturopaths do not have a professional registration.

The profession of naturopathy will provide the public with a mechanism to ensure that rogue practitioners aren't operating in the industry.

The National Code of Conduct for Unregistered Health Workers does not include any protections for titles and it does not impose a standard for naturopathic education.

As a member of ANPA, you will be expected to hold fast to established Naturopathic philosophies:

  • First, do no harm
  • Practice nature's healing power - Vis Medicatrix Naturae
  • Determine the cause and treat it - Tolle Causum
  • Take a multifaceted approach to health and disease; treating the whole person
  • Practice prevention - it's the best cure
  • There will be no discrimination against clients or professionals based on their race, religion, age, sex, disability, national ancestry, sexual orientation, or economic circumstances.
  • Abide by all state and local laws
  • Agreement to not practice beyond one’s abilities or, as required by law
  • Strive to be objective with the treatment of clients and performing duties, respecting the rights and limitations of all individuals
  • As a Naturopathic representative, distinguish clearly between personal and professional statements and actions in public
  • Ensure one's personal and professional conduct is in line with the values, goals, and objectives of the Naturopathic Code of Ethics through policy, procedures, and personal practices.

An ANPA member is a qualified naturopath, trained at least to an Advanced Diploma level and many have advanced degrees.

Naturopaths provide excellent health care to the public, offering millions of consultations each year with excellent results across the nation.

Your naturopath will work closely with your GP or other healthcare providers to provide you with the best patient-centred care.
