Gua Sha
Gua Sha or channel scraping involves the use of a round edged instrument to scrub along the meridians (to remove blood stagnation which is considered pathogenic) and promotes healthy qi and blood circulation. As a result of the scraping, Gua Sha leaves red elevated patches which fade after a few days.
Gua Sha is used in our clinic to treat soft tissue pain and inflammation.
Moxibustion
Moxibustion involves the burning of a herb called Mugwort. The moxa comes in various forms but is usually burnt to provide a warming treatment to the body which expels cold and increases blood and qi flow. The bitter & acrid aspects of Mugwort help to break stagnation, clear phlegm, and rectify the qi and blood.
Practitioners use moxa to warm regions and acupuncture points with the intention of stimulating circulation through the points and inducing a smoother flow of blood and qi.
