Skin Conditions
Focus areas
My journey into naturopathy began 28 years ago, fueled by my own struggles with acne. This personal experience ignited a passion for understanding skin health and led me to dedicate my career to helping others navigate their skin conditions. Over the years, I have assisted countless teenagers and adults in managing various skin issues, empowering them to achieve clearer, healthier skin through holistic approaches.
Skin conditions can affect individuals of all ages and can significantly impact self-esteem and overall well-being. Understanding these conditions and their underlying causes is crucial for effective management and treatment. A common theme across many skin issues is the necessity to support gut health, liver function, detoxification, and elimination pathways while managing stress and reducing immune triggers. These general principles are relevant across all skin conditions, each of which requires specific, tailored strategies for optimal results.
Here are some of the common skin conditions I treat:
Acne: One of the most prevalent skin conditions, acne affects both teenagers and adults. It occurs when hair follicles become clogged with oil and dead skin cells, leading to the formation of pimples, blackheads, and cysts. Factors like hormonal changes, stress, and diet can exacerbate the condition.
Eczema (Atopic Dermatitis): A chronic inflammatory skin condition, eczema is characterized by dry, itchy patches. It often starts in childhood and can continue into adulthood. Triggers may include dietary allergens, immune imbalances, and stress.
Psoriasis: This autoimmune condition causes rapid skin cell turnover, leading to thick, red, scaly patches on the skin. Psoriasis can affect any area of the body and is often linked to stress, infections, and genetic factors.
Rosacea: A chronic condition that causes facial redness and visible blood vessels, rosacea may also present with acne-like bumps. While the exact causes remain unclear, triggers can include dietary factors, stress, and digestive issues.
Seborrheic Dermatitis: Characterized by flaky, red patches, seborrheic dermatitis often appears on the scalp and face. It's believed to be associated with an overgrowth of yeast on the skin.
My extensive knowledge and experience allow me to offer personalized strategies for each skin condition, focusing on nutritional therapy, herbal medicine, and lifestyle modifications. By addressing the root causes and promoting overall wellness, I aim to support individuals in achieving healthier skin and improving their quality of life.
