How Does Colon Hydrotherapy Work?

A typical colon hydrotherapy treatment lasts about 45 minutes. There are no irritating odours or mess to be concerned about. Because the water is delivered at low pressure, there is no risk of intestinal perforation.

A small, sterile and disposable speculum is inserted into the client's rectum. It has a tiny inlet tube through which warm filtered water enters to reach the colon and an outlet tube that connects to the colon hydrotherapy machine. The flow of water causes a reaction in which the patient begins to release water and waste through a line that allows the therapist to check the discharged bowel contents. This is a peristalsis reaction, which is a typical sequence of smooth muscular contractions that move foodstuffs along the digestive tract.
