Professional Representation for Chinese Medicine Practitioners
Founded in 1973 to represent and promote acupuncture as a profession, the AACMA is Australia's premier professional organisation for Chinese medicine practitioners, including acupuncturists, herbalists, and therapists who perform traditional remedial massage.
Over the past four decades, AACMA has successfully repositioned the TCM profession in Australia.
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has made significant advancements in the Australian government's and public's perception because of AACMA’s promotion, education, and research programs.
Chinese medicine is now considered a valid part of the mainstream health system in Australia due to its relevance and effectiveness.
In fact, since 1 July 2012, the Chinese medicine profession has been accredited by the National Registration and Accreditation Scheme (NRAS) for Health Professions.
Nurses, midwives, chiropractors, dentists, physiotherapists, doctors, and dentists are all regulated by this scheme.
Excellence in Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine
Safety, quality, and ethics in practice are priorities for AACMA. By maintaining high standards for education and practice, AACMA-accredited practitioners provide high-quality acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine healthcare.
For practitioners to offer acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine services to the public, they must be registered with the Chinese Medicine Board of Australia (CMBA) and adhere to the AACMA's strict codes and guidelines.
To date, there are over 2,200 acupuncturists and Chinese medicine practitioners in the AACMA.
