AACHP - Australian Association of Clinical Hypnotherapy & Psychotherapy

The AACHP is a recognised professional association with strict membership criteria and practising members of the AACHP are eligible to join the Australian National Hypnotherapy Register (ANHR).

Australian Association of Clinical Hypnotherapy & Psychotherapy

Professional Clinical Members of the AACHP are recognised Hypnotherapy providers with Medibank Private; CBHS; Australian Unity; Phoenix Health Fund; RT Health Fund; Westfund Ltd; Teachers Health; Healthcare Insurance Ltd and Grand United Health and the AACHP is currently awaiting confirmation of provider recognition from additional major health insurance companies. This recognition by the health industry means that members of the public seeking the help of a professional clinical hypnotherapist can feel confident about approaching any of our practising members, all of whom have successfully completed approved training courses, are bound by a strict code of ethics and are required to complete on-going supervision and professional development on an annual basis to continually refresh and enhance their skills and knowledge.

“Credentials” in the Complementary Health Care Professions

Clinical Hypnotherapy, Psychotherapy, Counselling and many other “non-medical” (often referred to as complementary) health care professions are not government regulated but are instead “self regulated” by professional associations such as the AACHP.

What does this mean for consumers of these services?

Put simply, if a health care practitioner does not belong to a professional association, they have not had to provide any evidence to anyone that they are suitably qualified to offer the services they are marketing to you. This means that is is up to you as the consumer to “do your homework” to ensure that you feel comfortable about the practitioner’s credentials.

Check that the practitioner you are intending to consult with is a member of a bona fide professional association that meets the following criteria as described in the PHI (Accreditation) Rules legislation 2008, according to which the association:
  • Is a national entity which has membership requirements for the profession

  • Provides assessment of the health care provider in terms of appropriate level of training and education required to practice in that profession

  • Administers a continuing professional development scheme in which the health care provider is required, as a condition of membership, to participate

  • Maintains a code of conduct which the health care provider must uphold in order to continue to be a member

  • Maintains a formal disciplinary procedure, which includes a process to suspend or expel members, and an appropriate complaints resolution procedure

The AACHP complies with this legislation and has very stringent membership criteria which means that we have “done the homework” for you regarding our members’ credentials.
