Natural Therapy Pages: I'm Mel from NTPagesTV, and I'm here with Lucy Cavendish. How are you, Lucy?
Lucy Cavendish: I'm really good. Thank you.
NTP: Nice to see you.
LC: Yeah, good to see you too.
NTP: And how's the show going? Busy?
LC: It's intense! It's really busy, lots of people, lots of people to chat to and, in fact, lots of friends to catch up with too. A lot of us are quite homedics, so it's really nice when we come to the festival because we get to see each other face to face.
NTP: Yes, you're out and about.
LC: Yeah, finally out of the kitchen.
NTP: So, tell me a little bit about you and what you do.
LC: My name is Lucy Cavendish. I'm a witch. I guess I've been on this path for, sort of officially, for about 25 years. But unofficially, you know, kind of since I was born. My path is witchcraft. We know witch just means, in the old, old anglo-saxon, means wise or to bend. So, it means to change and to shape things to work with energy, with wisdom. And the craft aspect is learning your craft, really getting solid about your knowledge so that you can be a witch who works from her wisdom and changes and shapes and manifests things. With knowledge and respect for the natural cycles that are around us. So, I write about those sorts of subjects. I do a lot of work that I suppose you could call channelled. But, I don't know. I feel funny about that word. I'm not a channel. I'm a person.
NTP: Yeah, it comes from within you.
LC: Yeah, well, a bit also, yeah. They speak with me, so it's like a dialogue. You know what I mean. Sometimes I think with channel, maybe I'm going to end up sounding like a pipe. Sorry for all the channellers out there. That was very impolitic of me.
NTP: And you have so many beautiful books. Tell me about some of the ones that you have on display.
LC: Well, these are Serene's books.
NTP: Oh, look! Here's one of yours.
LC: Oh, yeah! Here's one of mine. But I also work with my friend Serene Conneeley, and I like to do this stand with people I know because we just share the energy. And Serene and I have written this book, which is called Mermaid Magic. While on the surface it might look that it's about fictional beings with tails, it's actually about their legends, their law, their energies, the way it's manifested all around the world, but also the energy and the healing power of water and the ocean.
So for us, this is about dugongs and dolphins and manatees and, you know, their spirit messages. There's also a great deal about sea runes, sea witchcraft, conchomancy, which is divination through seashells and what comes up on the shore. And we really, really got into it. As you can see on the back, we both have mer-tails. So yeah, we love exploring mythology, looking, and I believe in mermaids. It's not that I'm saying that they're unreal creatures, but the energies and the spirits of the ocean don't necessarily appear to us in the same way that they're depicted quite often. But that's the way that we understand them to look like.
But I do think that part of our own self is oceanic, that we've evolved out of the ocean just as much as we've evolved out of the land. We have a past with Atlantis and Lemuria. And you know, this book is kind of a way to understand that past, but also now, what's going on now with the ocean and the water. We need these things.
NTP: Yeah, absolutely. Well, it's fascinating. It sounds very magical as you told it.
LC: Oh, thank you.
NTP: So, how can we find out more about you and all your work?
LC: Well, I'm on Facebook tragically. Keeping up with the times, and I do like it. It's very social as a writer.
NTP: Do you have a website as well?
LC: Yeah, it's www.lucycavendish.com. But as a writer, I spend a lot of time in the kitchen, not really seeing lots of people. So, those sorts of things connect you. That's a good thing.
NTP: Yeah, that's right. Absolutely. Well, it was very lovely to talk to you.
LC: Lovely to talk to you too.
NTP: I hope you have lots of fun at the show.
LC: Yeah, we will. Thanks so much. Thank you, bye.
