Bowen therapy is a gentle remedial body technique that works on the soft connective tissue of the body. It can provide fast, long-lasting relief from pain and discomfort.

Bowen Therapy Promotes Self-healing

Bowen therapy is based on a gentle pressure and release technique of the soft connective tissue (fascia) of the body. This involves a sequence of light, cross-fibre movements of varying pressure at specific sites on the body. It is believed this technique promotes the body’s own healing response.

Bowen Therapy Corrects Dysfunction of Soft Tissue

Tom Bowen (1916-1982) developed the Bowen technique after working as a massage therapist for junior football clubs in Geelong, Australia. Bowen therapy is based on Tom’s observation that dysfunction of the fascia is the underlying cause of many musculoskeletal, neurological and neuromuscular problems.

Bowen Therapy Effective for Many Conditions

Bowen Therapy is a holistic technique that can be used to treat many physical and psychological conditions such as sport and accident injuries, stress and emotional disorders.

What to Expect at a Bowen Therapy Session

Bowen treatment can be performed directly on the body or through light clothing. You will be asked to drink water immediately before and after each session to hydrate the body. Sessions usually last from 30 minutes to an hour. Most Bowen therapists recommend a break of five-ten days between sessions to allow the body to begin to heal.

Bowen technique is a holistic therapy that aims to treat the cause of problems – not just the symptoms. It is a gentle, pleasant technique that can be enjoyed by people of all ages.
