In this video, Mel is with Pamela from the Theosophical Society, who are seekers of the truth. The society also has the largest esoteric library in the southern hemisphere.
The written transcription of the video interview is provided below.
Natural Therapy Pages: I'm Mel from NTPagesTV, and I'm here with Pamela from the Theosophical Society. How are you, Pamela?
Pamela Peterson: I'm very well, thank you.
NTP: That's good. Tell me a little bit about the Society.
PP: Well, it's a worldwide organisation with branches in 70 countries throughout the world, and we are seekers of the truth. Theosophy comes from the Greek word, meaning divine wisdom, which is the essence of all world religions and philosophies, East and West. When you take any of the religions and philosophies, strip away the mythology and a lot of the politics which has crawled into them these days, what is left is the essence of all of these world teachings. That's what we are trying to present to the world.
NTP: Oh, gorgeous. So, you've got a centre in Sydney?
PP: Yes, yes, 484 Kent Street in Theosophy House, on the second and third floors. And, of course, we have a library on the third floor, the Adyar Library, which is the largest esoteric library in the southern hemisphere.
NTP: One of my favourite places to be.
PP: Yes. The bookshop is separate. The bookshop is in Bathurst Street, 99 Bathurst St., on the mezzanine floor, because we own the bookshop. There is a wealth of information based in the bookshop and in the library.
NTP: Beautiful, so it has been there in Sydney for a long time?
PP: Yes, oh yes, it's been there for a long time.
NTP: So, how does it work? Do you run courses? How do people get involved?
PP: Yes, we run courses. We have every Wednesday afternoon, two o'clock. There is a lecture which is open to the public, not just members, for a very small fee for non-members. At the moment, we have a special offer to anybody coming here to the festival and taking one of the green pamphlets. They are welcome to come to our Wednesday afternoon lectures until the end of June, free of charge. Also, to our tai chi classes on Friday morning.
NTP: Beautiful. So, on Wednesday at the lecture, you learn about the principles of theosophy?
PP: Yes, there are various people coming to talk about a large variety of topics. We also have workshops; there's one beginning next week, five Thursday afternoons at two o'clock. That is 'Theosophy Goes to Hollywood'. We're talking about the influence that theosophy had on the film industry in Hollywood. So, these workshops are very hands-on and very, very interesting. I would recommend them to people.
NTP: Oh, wonderful! So, you have a website we can go to; this is tssydney.org.au?
PP: That's right, yes.
NTP: I'm sure you've got all the information there.
PP: All the information would be there.
NTP: Great! Well, thank you so much for your time today.
PP: You're very welcome. Thank you.
