Boost Your Health with Green Juicing

The importance of green food and green juicing cannot be stressed enough.  Our parents were on the right track when they undertook the painstaking job of persuading us to eat our greens.  Back in those days, there was not as much research into the benefits of green vegetables, they followed their instinct and the scarce studies. Now, the jury is out – go the greens.

A great way to cram in all those nutrients is to undertake green juicing.  A delicious green juice that provides fantastic health benefits is by juicing kale.  Kale has long being know as a superfood in that it provides a powerhouse of nutrients with few calories.  Not only does it build our immune system, we also get many important antioxidants, phytochemicals, minerals and vitamins.  Some of these are as follows:

Lutein

Lutein is a potent antioxidant that is important for eye health and is especially recommended to prevent macular degeneration.   It is also is beneficial to skin.

Vitamin K

Vitamin K is an important mineral for healthy blood and is found in high amounts in Kale.  It provides anti-clotting compounds therefore assisting in the clotting of blood when skin is broken.

Vitamin A

Vitamin A is an important mineral for supporting immune function, maintaining a healthy skin glow as well as supporting eye health.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is also found in abundance in kale. Vitamin C is an important antioxidant, it also supports immune function.  It supports healthy heart function in that it strengthens the arteries.  Vitamin C is also necessary for maintaining healthy body tissues.   Vitamin C supports the absorption of iron which is also found in Kale.

Calcium

Being a rich source of calcium, kale is a great vegetable for building and maintaining healthy bones.  It is also needed for contraction of muscle.

Kale is just one example of a green vegetable high in nutrients.  All have similar health benefits, minerals and vitamins.  As well as the above, kale provides omega 3 fatty acids, iron, manganese, magnesium, Vitamin E, Vitamin B1, Vitamin B2,  Vitamin B3.

Super Fibre Kale Juice

Ingredients

  • 2 kale leaves
  • 1/2 pineapple
  • Juice of one lime

Instructions

  1. Juice the pineapple.
  2. Add the kale leaves and then the lime juice.
  3. Serve.
