Natural Therapy Pages: I'm Mel from NTPagesTV, and I'm here with Helen from Maum Meditation. How are you, Helen?
Helen Raffal: Great, thanks.
NTP: So, tell me about Maum Meditation. What does that word 'Maum' come from?
HR: It comes from Korea and it means mind in the sense of heart and spirit, not just the intellect.
NTP: So does this practice actually come from Korea?
HR: It does. Originally, yes.
NTP: Has it been around for a long time?
HR: No, it originated in 1996.
NTP: And what were the origins of it?
HR: The founder of this meditation, after meditating in Korea, became enlightened and realised that human beings, in a bit of a fickle I guess, really their minds are not clear, and developed this method to actually clarify our mind, and to tell us, 'Who am I', 'Where do I come from?' and 'Where do I go?', to answer those three questions that people always ask themselves.
NTP: And how long have you been involved for?
HR: About seven years.
NTP: What would you say are the benefits of Maum Meditation? Have you found it in your life?
HR: Well, I was someone really looking for the truth. I wanted to know what's the truth of my existence. That was what I sought this meditation for, but, actually, the side effects are really clear mind and light, get rid of so much burden from my mind. So many contradictions that make stress in your life, and feel clear and healthy and happy.
NTP: Wow! So, is it a simple process? Is it a simple meditation that anybody can learn? How does it work?
HR: It works… we do the meditation at our centre, and it's actually a process of discarding the pictures from our minds. We're actually cleansing the mind. This is a radical meditation, not like other meditation. We're cleansing the emotions and the pictures from the mind. So, we actually, put it like this…when I was born, my mind was clear. And over my life, I put into my mind everything that happened. I still am carrying it, and that actually cluttered up my mind. So, this meditation takes everything from my mind to see, because now I'm thinking this is me. The past is history. So, this is take from my mind and find out who I am.
NTP: So, it's quite different, as you say, from other meditations.
HR: It is, it's completely.
NTP: And whereabouts is your centre?
HR: It's in Eastwood.
NTP: Okay, so people can come there, all ages or?
HR: Yes, absolutely. It's for everybody.
NTP: Beautiful. I know you have a website. It's maum.org, and we can go there and find out more, yes?
HR: Okay, yup.
NTP: Thank you so much for your time today, Helen. Very interesting.
HR: Sure thing. Great.
