Choose a kinesiologist who has completed a course accredited by an industry association such as the Australian Kinesiology Association, or a practitioner who has completed a course through one of the registered training organisations that are compliant with the Australian Qualifications Training Framework. Kinesiologists should have at least a Certificate IV or a diploma in kinesiology.
They should also be a member of the professional association, which has a professional code of conduct and code of ethics. Associations include the Australian Kinesiology Association and the Australian Institute of Kinesiologists.
Ask for a referral from another medical or natural therapies practitioner. Word of mouth is also a great way to find a good kinesiologist – ask if any of your friends or acquaintances have ever had a treatment and ask their opinion – a personal recommendation goes a long way.
Make sure that you are comfortable with a hands-on therapy, as kinesiology is very much hands-on. It’s also best to feel entirely at ease with your therapist as it could hinder your healing if you feel inhibited or intimidated in any way.
