Being a nutritionist, my world centres around food. Not only with the clients I see, but with myself, my family and my friends (much to the dismay of some!). My philosophy is "Food as Medicine". I feel in the world we live in today, a world that is so fast and furious, a world that has somehow forgotten to stop, take a breath and look around, never before has the glory of good food been so important.
Nutrition for me is holistic. In other words, it is about the food we eat, the exercise we endure. It is also about the way in which we live our lives, our stress release. As a nutritionist, I endeavour to improve the quality of the life for the person that has entrusted me with their health.
I take great satisfaction in healing through food. I believe that food contains life sustaining properties and that certain ailments can be modified by altering the intake of certain foods. A number of the clients I see come to me for lifestyle changes, whilst the other fraction utilise my knowledge for the prevention and treatment of certain illness. It is important for the client to understand that nutrition is not a quick fix but a lifelong revolution.
A new consultation begins with a very in-depth medical and family history. The client would convey symptoms and what he/she might want from the consultations. This would normally take 1 ½ hours. The symptoms and history are then reviewed and a health program is then designed in accordance with the whole person in mind. The following consultation is where this program is presented to the client with explanations and questions. The consultations thereafter are follow up consultations where the client is given a chance to express concerns and revelations. It is also a chance for the nutritionist to ensure the program is suitably being followed. Consultations are generally booked with 3 weeks in between each and it may be necessary for continuous consultations.
