Hypnotherapy is one of a range of natural therapies used for a range of healing treatments, including angina. Natural therapies are valued for their non-invasive nature and are increasingly being turned to due to their relative lack of side effects.
What Is Angina?
Angina is the medical term used to describe the physical symptoms experienced when the heart is not receiving an adequate amount of oxygenated blood. This is chiefly due to the narrowing of the arteries which supply blood to the heart. This is termed arthrosclerosis, and is characterised by an accumulation of plaque or fatty acids on the walls of the arteries. Arthrosclerosis is thought to be caused by a range of factors including diet, excessive smoking and a lack of exercise; while the hereditary aspect is also thought to play a part.
Angina Symptoms
Typical symptoms of angina include pain and discomfort in the chest area, with many sufferers describing a sensation of heaviness in the area. This is often accompanied by a shooting pain that can radiate down both arms and the neck, while others may experience breathlessness and excessive sweating. These symptoms may occur at random or be linked to an activity such as exercise or over-exertion.
What is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is best described as an enhanced state of relaxation, and can be utilised by a qualified hypnotherapist to effect a range of healing. Hypnotherapy uses this state to access the potential of the unconscious mind and has successfully been used to treat a wide range of conditions including stress, poor sleep patterns, weight issues and nicotine addiction; amongst others. Stress and anxiety has been shown to be on the rise in modern western society, and both have the potential to lead to further health complications; including heart disease.
Hypnotherapy for Angina
A trained hypnotherapist is best placed to conduct hypnosis for the relief of angina symptoms. They will typically use their voice and other calming techniques to induce a state of hypnosis in the patient. This is not a trance and is a safe state to be in. Recent studies have linked hypnotherapy with a reduction in the chest pains associated with the condition, with some patients able to reduce their use of angina medication.
