1 December marks World AIDS Day, a global awareness initiative to support people living with HIV – and remember those who lost their lives to the disease.
World AIDS Day theme
The theme for this year’s World AIDS Day is a carry-over from 2014: "Getting to Zero: Zero new HIV infections. Zero discrimination. Zero AIDS related deaths."
It’s an impactful message, and one that aims to make us all aware of HIV, and take steps to minimise the spread of HIV.
We’re also being encouraged to support and not discriminate against the people living in our community with HIV.
How to show your support
There are many ways to get involved and show your support for 2015 World AIDS Day. This includes:
- Buying and wearing a red ribbon
- Selling red ribbons in your community and workplace
- Understanding safe sex practices – and encouraging and educating others to do the same
- Join a World AIDS Day event. There are fashion shows, galas, parties, musical events, remembrance services, charity movie screenings, sporting events, morning teas, makeup workshops, and much more
To find an event in your state or territory, visit the World AIDS Day Australia website events page.
Their website, as well as the official World Aids Day Website, also have pages of information on AIDS and HIV facts, events, how to get involved, and who to contact.
Together, we can get to zero.
