My aims when using art therapy are cheering; relieving anxiety and encouraging trust, security and calmness.
Client groups who benefit from Art Therapy include:
All ages - Children, adolescents, adults and the elderly - especially those who have concerns and difficulties with expressing themselves, for example:
*people with disabilities including Autism spectrum disorder
*people with mental and physical health issues
people who are not very verbally expressive
Some techniques used in Art Therapy include:
Storyboards to obtain a clearer image of goals - corporate art therapy
Collage - clients don’t need to be “good at art”
Clay to create a durable solid image to revisit again and again
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) / Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) - reframing problem thought patterns and sitting with conflicting situations
Painting/Drawing - looking at the image the client has made with them and attending mindfully to what the image symbolizes to them
